Course Structure

The Critical Essay Podcast is developed by Dr James Shelly.

Dr James Shelly is a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist working in Melbourne. He has both clinical and academic experience in Australia, Ireland and his home country, South Africa. He has written and passed the RANZCP Essay-style exam himself, and has had some experience facilitating essay-writing tutorials for trainees preparing for their exams in the service in which he currently works. He is also the creator, producer and host of the Psychiatry Conversations Podcast, aimed at supporting trainees preparing for their essay-style exam.

» This podcast consists of two lectures and is about an hour in total duration.
» The material is accessible for a three-month period and cannot be downloaded.

Part 1:  General approaches and techniques to consider when writing a critical essay- some advice on first steps, planning, time management and structure.

Part 2:  Key topics to be built into the body of the essay- important concepts and content used to build and present an informed and sophisticated argument.
