Course Structure

In Part 1 of this course, we cover general approaches and techniques to consider when writing a critical essay- some advice on first steps, planning, time management and structure.

In Part 2 we cover some of the key topics to be built into the body of the essay- important concepts and content used to build and present an informed and sophisticated argument.

James Shelly is a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, living and working in Melbourne. He has both clinical and academic experience in Australia, Ireland and his home country, South Africa. He has written and passed the RANZCP Essay-style exam himself, and has had some experience facilitating essay-writing tutorials for trainees preparing for their exams in the service in which he currently works. He is also the creator, producer and host of the Psychiatry Conversations Podcast, also aimed at supporting trainees preparing for their essay-style exam.
